Last #connecttuesdays, I had Erica answer these questions, and today I'm featuring Paul Johnson, Erica's husband and my dear friend. He also has known me as a freshman in high school, and has a big part of my musical development. I played moog in his electric pop band, and it definitely boosted my high school self esteem!
Who are you?
I've always thought I didn't know, but I think I've figured it out (maybe I've always known and just been denying it?). I am Paul Johnson, 36 years old, a disciple of Christ, a husband to Erica, a father to Sven, a creator of art (hopefully) both literary and musical, a teacher of students, and a student of English and literature. I think to most people I seem distant and weird. They are probably right. I am dutiful, honest (sometimes to a fault and therefore gullible), and independent.
What inspires you?
Maybe dreams? If I think of something I'm proud of it is usually right after I wake up. Maybe it is just being awake early in the morning. I like getting up before daybreak. Also books. I like reading, thinking about, and discussing ideas. Specifically, things that are illuminating. For example, if I'm discussing a book with students and they come up with some great insight that I couldn't have thought of, or just when reading something that I never would've thought.
What do you fear?
Irrelevance? Being forgotten? Failing to provide for my family?... Those are probably in reverse order of importance.
What makes you laugh?
Absurd or silly things, usually... including: turns of phrase, puns, double meanings, irony, sarcasm, falling down, looking back, trying not to.
